12 MUST HAVE GEAR LIST ITEMS FOR YOUR NEXT BACKCOUNTRY ELK HUNT
Ok, so you have drawn an elk tag or you are going to try an over the counter hunt?  You may be asking yourself "What do I need in my gear list for hunting elk this fall?"  Luckily, DRAW MORE TAGS ™ has you covered!  Here are 12 MUST HAVE items you need for hunting elk this September.
Click the photos below to see gear we have personally used and recommend.

1. QUALITY HUNTING BOOTS
Price: Varies
  • Quality hunting boots are a must have item in every hunters gear list.
2. 100% WOOL HIKING SOCKS

  • Wool Hiking socks pair with your hunting boots to form your "feet system". Don't cheat your feet!
3. QUALITY BINOCULARS
  • Nearly every big game hunt requires a quality pair of binoculars. We recommend 10x42 or 10x50 for big game hunting.
4. WIND CHECKER
  • Simply put, you can not cheat an animals nose. "Play the wind" to your favor with a wind checker.
5. WATER FILTRATION SYSTEM
  • DO NOT venture into the backcountry without a proper water filtration or cleansing system.
6. WATER STORAGE SYSTEM
  • A Quality MIL-SPEC water storage system is a must. We recommend at least 2 liters capacity.
7. HAND HELD GPS NAVIGATION WITH DISTRESS CALL
  • Accidents happen and hunters get lost all the time. Protect yourself and give your family peace of mind with a handheld GPS device that includes a distress call.
8. BULL ELK BUGLE
  • Few things are more exciting than calling in your first BULL ELK. These are all beginner to intermediate calls and work great for locating and firing up bull elk.

9. COW ELK CALL

  • Talk their language with these three recommended calls. I recommend you never leave for a hunt with less than two cow elk calls. Sweet talk the bulls into range.

10. SURVIVAL / FIRST AID KIT

  • Be prepared for every situation. Even if you are just going out for an afternoon hunt, you never know when an emergency situation may arise. Be smart. Hunt with confidence.
11. ENOUGH FOOD TO SUSTAIN THE HUNT
  • Food is a big topic in the field. Freeze dried meals and meal replacement bars are a great way to make sure your body is getting the calories it needs when you DRAW MORE TAGS ™.

12. RANGE FINDER

  • Properly being able to range an animal after you have them located is key to being successful. I personally use the vortex 2000 and it has worked perfectly for over two years and comes with a lifetime warranty at under $300.
